As part of Disaster Preparedness, LGU Lal-lo organized its own local responders called Lal-lo Rescue Team 35 (LRT 35) to effectively anticipate, respond to and recover from the impacts of likely, imminent or current hazard events or conditions that may occur in the municipality. Thru an executive order, LRT 35 is composed of 20 volunteers mostly coming from the different departments of the LGU who successfully completed the Water Search and Rescue Training Course (WaSAR) conducted by the Office of Civil Defence-R02, PCCDRRMO Cagayan thru RESCUE 29 and the Philippine Red Cross, Cagayan Chapter in coordination with LGU Lal-lo thru the MDRRM Office last August 25-31, 2013 at the Lal-lo National High School. The seven (7) days WaSAR course aimed to enhance the skills capability of the team and be familiar with standard in First Aid, management, water, flood and Rope Rescue in order to increase their effectiveness and limit liability during emergency operations. After the training, the 20 volunteers were able to gain knowledge on swimming techniques, basic rescue, shore-based operation rescue using generally accepted “search,throw techniques, in-water self-rescue and safety techniques, the application of water rescue techniques using available equipment, basic water related medical emergencies, and how to deal with them, including near drowning, hypothermia, and cervical spine injuries, basic boat-based rescue concerns and techniques and First Aid Management. With this training, Lal-lo had produced a competent, skilled and knowledgeable rescue team to perform and act to any emergency situation. |
