The municipality of Lal-lo has successfully conducted a 3-day seminar workshop on map digitizing for the implementation of Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) form September 8-10, 2014 at the Municipal Nutrition Council Office.
The CBMS is envisioned to serve as a tool for local governance and complement the national poverty monitoring system. The CBMS facilitates the implementation of targeted poverty reduction programs with its household and individual level data as well as the monitoring and evaluation of these poverty reduction programs.
The Municipal Planning and Development Office headed by Mr. Jolson A. Maagad thru the CBMS Focal Person, Mr. Neilbrann T. Columna, designed the workshop to capacitate the new members of the CBMS Team who are responsible in the said phase of implementation. The CBMS Focal Person of the DILG Regional Office in the person of Ms. Eva Z. Baccay was also tapped to facilitate the workshop.
The 3-day activity focused mainly on map digitizing. Each participant was given a spot map for them to work on. At the last day of the activity, the participants presented their output for critiquing and Ms. Eva was very happy that all the participants were able to follow her lectures.
Map digitizing is a process of converting the geographic features on an analog (paper) map into digital format (picture) using a computer.
At the end of the workshop, Ms. Eva challenged all the participants to commit themselves on the program to fast-tract its implementation and hoped that by the end of October, the CBMS Team will be ready to face Module III.#
