One resolution deals with the LMP’s request to the Regional Development Council to include in the Regional Development Investment Plan for 2014 – 2016 the construction of a road linking Lasam to Sto. Niño and another one connecting Rizal and Lasam. These roads shall serve as alternate routes in case the Magapit Bridge cannot be used during repairs. Besides, the road networks can hasten development activities, including tourism, in these areas.
The same goal is targeted by two other resolutions requesting the rehabilitation of the Provincial roads from Iguig to Baggao, and from Baggao to Penablanca.
Recognizing the benefits of town reclassification to the development of the municipalities as well as to their people, a resolution was passed to request the Department of Finance to implement the reclassification of some municipalities. The action, which was delayed for a year, has deprived the towns of the increased Internal Revenue Allocation.
To benefit the barangay officials is a resolution requesting the Department of Health to implement in government hospitals the giving of free hospitalization for these local officials.
During the meeting, three resource persons were invited. LTC Felix A. Benitez, Commanding Officer of the 21IB, PA, briefed the mayors on the peace and order situation of the province. He reiterated the need for the continuing partnership in maintaining peace and order in their jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, Cagayan OIC Schools Division Superintendent Jesus B. Maggay discussed to the mayors on the new policy of the Department of Education on the prohibition of LGUs hiring new teachers. However, he advised the mayors to seek approval of hiring from the DepED Secretary, Bro. Armin Luistro. Dr. Maggay also explained the localization policy of hiring and assigning of qualified teachers in the barangay where they reside.
The mayors expressed their appreciation as they see the LMP Cagayan chapter as an effective forerunner in espousing commonly shared concerns and needs, as well as seeking solutions to them.
During the first meeting, the maiden issue of Local Executive Gazette, the official publication of the LMP Cagayan chapter, was released. It featured the initial activities of the organization, the well wishes of government and political leaders, and information of the member municipalities. The Editorial Staff includes Mr. Ferdinand Bulusan as the Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Simeon Israel, Jr. as the Circulation Manager, Mr. Federico Villanueva, Jr. as Cartoonist and Marcelo Raquepo, Ph.D. and Mayor Pascual as Consultants.
The next meeting of the organization is set in February next year with Mayor Lloyd Antiporda of the Municipality of Buguey as host.
