His day started with a celebration of the Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Noel Malana, held at the Bagumbayan Central School, attended not only by the Senior Citizens and our family, but by the people who remembered his special day and by those who wished to celebrate the day with him. It is indeed overwhelming to see so many people who came to greet him. The celebrant could not contain his happiness and such is evident as he greets the people in return with warm handshakes, giggles and sweet smiles.
I was also given time to say something about the celebrant. I was teary-eyed when I said how good a man he is, as a husband, a friend, a confidant, a leader, a father, and most especially as a son, who loves his parents and my parents, as well, very much. I really know he was touched when I said I know he misses her “Nanang” who happens to be in the United States that day. My man is really such a loving son, and that makes me truly proud of him.
Our children Coleen and Alanis were smiling, teary-eyed, too, when I said that even now that they are grown ups, the celebrant still let them sit on his lap and treat them like little kids, with his corny and obsolete jokes.
I want to share what Coleen and Abby posted on their Facebook…
“The corniest and best dancer alive turns 55 today! Every time he sees me, he says “anak, sana tumangkad ka pa!” I hope so too, pa. Haha happy birthday! I love you so much!”
“I can never thank the Lord enough for having you as my father. Being loved by you is truly wonderful and your selflessness is admirable. Every day I am reminded to never settle for a love that is less than what I deserve because having you is proof that people can love unconditionally. May you be blessed more each day for you have been a blessing to a lot of people that you have helped. You will always be my first love. I love you, pa! Happy xxth birthday!”
Indeed, his birth is not only a lucky day for him. January 3 had been a lucky day for all Lal-loqueños because it is on that day that a man who is ready to serve them with all of his heart, mind, body and soul had been born to their land.
Above all, for me and our children, January 3 had been a very lucky and important day. This is a very special day for our Papa Teng, and such date, for us, is as special as he is. He is the most special man in my life because it is with him that I had built my dreams and it is with him that I want to be with forever. He is a very special man because he is the “Papa” of my kids and he is my one and only “lakay.”
To Teng, I want you to know that I am very thankful, for indeed, God gave me you.
